Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What is the temperament of the Alaskan Klee Kai
They are very playful, curious, loving and happy. They enjoy being with their people and can be shy around strangers. Individual personalities will develop and vary based on each AKK. Some will be more reserved, or more outgoing, or more adventurous, or more cuddly, or anything in between.

  2. How big will the Alaskan Klee Kai get?
The AKK range in size from under 13 inches tall to 17 inches tall and are divided up into three size groups.*
    Standard Size: 15 - 17 inches tall
    Miniature Size: 13-15 inches tall
Toy Size: Under 13 inches tall
*Weight is not a metric used to classify this breed

  3. Do they shed?
Yes. They shed a little every day. This can be maintained with routine brushing. They do “blow their coat” twice a year in preparation for summer and winter. More brushing will be necessary at this time to manage the additional shedding.

  4. Are they good with Children?
This will depend on the individual AKK, exposure to children, training, etc…Our puppies are part of our family until they enter yours. As part of the family they will be around our two children from day one. This is not a guarantee that they will do well with children when they are older, however it is a good start. Our adult AKK are great with children.

  5. Are they good with other animals?
This again will depend on the individual. In general they are good with other animals, but this breed does tend to be more reserved than say a lab or a golden retriever. The more socialization and exposure they have from the beginning the better they will get along with a variety of other animals.

  6. Do they dig or chew?
Yes. This will depend on the individual dog, but both digging and chewing are common and can become excessive if they do not get adequate exercise. Having a variety of toys is helpful to keep their attention.

  7. What is the life expectancy of an Alaskan Klee Kai?
Alaskan Klee Kai generally live for about 15-17 years.

  8. How much do your Alaskan Klee Kai cost?
Generally speaking an Alaskan Klee Kai from a reputable breeder can cost anywhere from $1200-$4000 on average. These prices vary based on confirmation, characteristics, pedigree, whether the dog qualifies for breeding/shows, etc…
Currently our prices range from $2000 - $2900 based on these factors.

  9. When is full payment for a puppy due?
Full payment is due when you are matched with a puppy.

  10. What does my payment cover?
The fee for one of our AKK puppy includes initial round of health screenings, puppy shots, microchipping, travel crate, a puppy care package and the cutest fluffy bundle of puppy love you will ever experience.

  11. What forms of payment do you accept?
    We currently accept PayPal.

  12. Are your AKK health tested?
Yes. We routinely have our Alaskan Klee Kai health tested. They are OFA patella, cardiac, thyroid and CERF certified.

  13. What size is a typical litter of puppies?
For the AKK, 1-3 puppies per litter is average.

  14. What is the average wait time for a puppy?
Because the Alaskan Klee Kai does not have large litters, the wait time for a puppy may be a little longer than other breeds. Depending on how specific your preferences are, the wait may be as short as a few months or may be as long as a few years. Our ultimate desire is a successful match. This may mean longer wait times as we work hard to find your perfect puppy, but we promise it will be work the wait!

  15. Do you offer a health guarantee on your puppies?
We do. Full details are outlined in our puppy sales contract.
